According to an official press release on Thursday, the test flight took place on June 27, 2025.
“The strategic partnership between Indonesia and South Korea in developing a 4.5-generation fighter jet reached a major milestone with the successful test flight of the KF-21 Boramae prototype,” Suadnyana said in the statement.
He added that the flight was carried out by Indonesian Air Force pilot Colonel Ferrel Rigonald and South Korean pilot Koh Hwi Seok.
The test was conducted at Sacheon Air Base in South Korea. During the flight, Rigonald occupied the front seat while Koh sat in the rear.
“The aircraft took off at 9:45 a.m. local time and performed a series of test maneuvers at an altitude of 20 thousand feet for about one hour,” Suadnyana informed.
The successful test flight is a significant achievement in the collaboration between Indonesia and South Korea in military aviation technology and human resource development.
Through the joint program, the Indonesian Air Force is expected to strengthen its air defense capabilities.
“The KF-21/IF-X program not only offers technical advantages but also reinforces Indonesia’s position as a key partner in the development of advanced defense systems based on innovation and self-reliant defense industries,” he added.
