Batam (ANTARA) - The Batam Immigration in Riau Islands has detained 10 foreign nationals who violated immigration regulations, with six detainees facing immediate deportation.

The Head of the Batam Immigration Office, Hajar Aswad, in Batam on Tuesday, explained that the violations committed by the foreign nationals varied, from misusing their stay permits to working without proper permits.

"Today we are handling ten detainees; a total of six will be deported, one will proceed to investigation, and three are still under investigation," Aswad said.

Some of the cases handled include a Chinese national who was holding a visa on arrival and suspected of misusing his stay permit by working as a guest agent at a nightclub.

Furthermore, a Singaporean national was found to have used the visa-free visitor facility but was involved in business activities and hotel management in Batam.

Another case involved three Indian nationals who used training and visit visas to work for a company in Batam.

Meanwhile, a Taiwanese was detained as he was about to depart for Singapore after being found to have overstayed for 74 days.

"All of them will be deported immediately," Aswad said.

The Batam Immigration is also still questioning three Chinese nationals who are suspected of working, a violation of their stay permits.

Another Singaporean national is being investigated for allegedly committing an immigration offense by staying without valid travel documents, with the case set to be escalated for further immigration investigation.

Regarding the Singaporean who stays without a valid travel document, Aswad said they will escalate the case to an investigation for violating Article 119 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration, as amended by Law Number 63 of 2024.

“The penalty is one year in prison and/or a fine of Rp100 million (approximately $5,984),” Aswad said.
