Medan (ANTARA) - The Medan Class I Special Immigration Office in North Sumatra prevented two Pakistani nationals from entering Indonesia through Kualanamu International Airport due to suspected involvement in criminal activities.

"This action demonstrates the Immigration Office's readiness to safeguard the security and sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia," said Head of the Medan Class I Special Immigration Office, Uray Avian, in a statement received in Medan on Sunday.

He stated that the measure was taken to ensure that every foreign national entering the country complies with legal requirements and poses no threat to national stability and security.

Uray explained that the two Pakistani nationals, identified by the initials SA and GA, were stopped after immigration officers detected that their passports were listed in the Interpol database when they arrived at the international arrivals terminal of Kualanamu Airport, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, on Friday (Oct. 24).

"From the initial inspection, immigration counter officers discovered that the travel documents of the two passengers were on an Interpol watchlist. Therefore, further examination was conducted by the Assistant Supervisor and Supervisor at the Kualanamu International Airport Immigration Checkpoint," he said.

The investigation indicated that SA was suspected of involvement in an international terrorism network, while GA had a criminal background linked to a murder case.

Officers then contacted the Interpol hotline and confirmed that both individuals were indeed listed as international fugitives.

Following the verification, Medan Immigration denied their entry and handed them back to the airline for return to their country of origin, in line with international immigration procedures.

The office emphasized that the handling of the case was carried out in coordination among relevant units as part of preventive efforts to maintain Indonesia’s security and territorial integrity from cross-border threats.
