Jakarta (ANTARA) - Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai met with Sudan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Yassir Mohamed Ali, here on Thursday to discuss steps toward peace in Sudan.

The Ministry stated it is ready to provide assistance measures to support peace if the Sudanese government submits an official request through Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“From the Human Rights Ministry’s side, if there is an official request from Sudan via the Foreign Minister, we can certainly take assistance steps,” Pigai told ANTARA.

The assistance Minister Pigai referred to involves human rights-oriented peace efforts, including humanitarian aid and reconciliation support, especially for communities affected by the conflict.

“So, we do not intervene in political matters or large-scale conflict, but focus on ensuring reconciliation, peace, sympathy, and empathy toward the people in Sudan,” he explained.

Minister Pigai also emphasized that President Prabowo Subianto is attentive to armed conflicts in various countries, including Sudan.

“The President has certainly paid attention to contributing to world peace,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Yassir Mohamed Ali outlined the severe human rights violations in Sudan, attributing atrocities to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), allegedly supported by regional and international powers.

He underlined that human rights should serve the welfare of the people, not as a vehicle for political intervention.

He expressed gratitude that Indonesia has long supported Sudan, demonstrated through various humanitarian aid deliveries. Politically, he said, Indonesia also backs Sudan at the UN Human Rights Council.

He expressed hope that Indonesia and Sudan can strengthen their relations.

"After the war ends, Indonesia will become Sudan’s main partner in reconstruction projects,” he said.
