Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police reported that 32 victims are still being treated in several hospitals following an explosion at State Senior High School (SMAN) 72 Jakarta on Friday (November 7).

"As of Monday noon, there are 32 victims still receiving treatment," said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto.

According to Hermanto, the 32 victims include 13 patients at Cempaka Putih Islamic Hospital (RSIJ), 17 at YARSI Hospital, one at Pertamina Jaya Hospital, and one at the Kramat Jati National Police Hospital.

In addition to medical recovery, Hermanto said the police are also providing psychological assistance to the victims.

"We are treating not only physical injuries but also their psychological trauma," he said.

He added that after completing the crime scene investigation, police officers and residents worked together to clean up the school area.

"The National Police Chief and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief have targeted school activities to resume this week," he noted.

Hermanto also clarified that the suspected perpetrator of the explosion was not anti-religious and had no ties to any organization or group. When asked about the motive, he said it is still under investigation.

"It is suspected that a lack of family attention contributed to the incident. This is an accumulation of factors — from the home, family, and surrounding environment — and we should approach it with empathy," he stated.

The explosion occurred on Friday, November 7, at the mosque of SMAN 72 Jakarta, injuring dozens of students.

Eyewitnesses said the blast happened while students and teachers were performing Friday prayers. The first explosion reportedly occurred during the sermon, followed by a second from another direction.

The incident caused various injuries, including burns and shrapnel wounds, and sparked panic among students, staff, and nearby residents.
