Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has ensured the safety and recovery of all victims of the recent explosion at a public high school mosque in Jakarta, an official said.

Head of the Jakarta Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Mikael Azedo Harwito, said in a statement on Saturday that the ministry has been closely monitoring developments on the ground.

He added that coordination continues with other ministries, agencies, and local authorities as part of efforts to safeguard the victims’ well-being and recovery.

Harwito also urged the public to stay calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and allow law enforcement agencies to conduct their investigation.

The explosion occurred on Friday, November 7, at the mosque of State Senior High School (SMAN) 72, injuring dozens of students.

Eyewitnesses said the blast happened while students and teachers were performing Friday prayers. The first explosion reportedly occurred during the sermon, followed by a second one from another direction.

The incident caused various injuries, including burns and shrapnel wounds, and triggered panic among students, staff, and nearby residents.

Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri said on Friday that 54 people suffered minor to moderate injuries, and some have been discharged from hospitals.

The police's counterterrorism unit, Densus 88, is investigating whether the blast had any connection to terrorism.

Jakarta Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto added that investigators are proceeding cautiously to prevent any secondary explosions.
