Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has set a target to electrify every village in Indonesia during President Prabowo Subianto’s tenure, according to Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Yandri Susanto.

“During a Cabinet meeting, we agreed to ensure that no villages are left without access to electricity during Mr. Prabowo’s presidency,” Susanto told lawmakers at a hearing with Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He emphasized that access to electricity is a key aspect of the government’s efforts to achieve equitable development across rural regions nationwide.

To that end, Susanto said his ministry will continue to work with relevant ministries and state institutions to accelerate village electrification, particularly in remote and underdeveloped regions.

Apart from electricity access, he underlined that his side is also determined to expand internet network coverage to all rural areas through collaboration with the Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) Ministry.

“We have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Komdigi Ministry to ensure internet connectivity reaches villages, especially tourism and exporter villages, as well as those with vast economic potential,” he explained.

The minister described the initiative as part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda.

Furthermore, Susanto asserted that cross-sector collaboration is crucial to ensure that rural communities have adequate access not only to electricity but also to clean water and education.

On November 3, Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the government has launched several village electrification initiatives, in line with President Prabowo’s directive to provide electricity to all villages by 2029 or 2030.

He added that the ESDM Ministry aims to develop power infrastructure in at least 1,285 villages nationwide by the end of 2025 to expand the services of state electricity company PLN.

Lahadalia emphasized that these measures reflect the government’s recognition of electricity access as a fundamental right for every Indonesian citizen.
