Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Jordan have agreed to establish a joint committee to facilitate bilateral information exchange on the situation in Gaza, Palestine.

The initiative was formalized during a meeting between Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Major General Yousef Ahmed Al-Hunaity, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, in Jakarta on Friday.

“We will jointly form a committee to exchange intelligence and updates. Given Jordan’s geographic proximity to Gaza, we see strategic value in collaborating with them to better understand conditions on the ground,” Sjamsoeddin told reporters.

He underscored the importance of this cooperation as Indonesia prepares to potentially deploy its National Armed Forces (TNI) for a peacekeeping mission in Gaza.

The committee is expected to enhance coordination between defense attachés from both countries, enabling Indonesia to refine its operational plans.

“Our goal is to stay well-informed about developments in Gaza. This will help us assess the situation more accurately and determine the appropriate course of action,” Sjamsoeddin added.

Asked about the timeline for troop deployment, the minister said the decision rests with President Prabowo.

Earlier, Head of the TNI Information Office Major General Freddy Ardianzah affirmed the military’s readiness to support a peacekeeping mission in Gaza, as directed by the president.

“The TNI is always prepared to implement government policy,” he said on October 27.

Ardianzah emphasized that Indonesian troops are trained for non-combat operations both domestically and internationally.

“We are committed to upholding peace and protecting national interests within the bounds of international law,” he stated.

President Prabowo has reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to Gaza’s rehabilitation, including the potential deployment of 20,000 peacekeepers.

He reaffirmed this during the 80th UN General Assembly in New York on September 23, noting that Indonesia is also ready to contribute to peacekeeping efforts in Sudan and Ukraine.
