Cianjur (ANTARA) - The Manpower and Transmigration Office in Cianjur, West Java, is expanding its Disability Service Unit (ULD) program to widen employment opportunities for people with disabilities and strengthen workplace inclusion.

Hero Laksono, head of the agency’s manpower placement division, said Saturday that outreach efforts are being intensified, particularly to support entrepreneurship among people with disabilities from low-income families.

“Through the entrepreneurship program, people with disabilities no longer need to depend on others. They can build skills and earn income to support their daily needs,” he said.

The program includes training on business management and independence-building, supported by assigned mentors who guide participants in developing viable enterprises.

To improve access to formal jobs, the office is also engaging with companies in Cianjur to promote compliance with regulations on hiring people with disabilities.

“The ULD program targets all people with disabilities, from severe to mild conditions, and currently involves around 20 participants,” Laksono noted.

He said the initiative also covers individuals who acquired disabilities due to accidents, ensuring they receive equal opportunities in the local labor market.

Laksono expressed hope that more companies would open their doors to workers with disabilities. Indonesian regulations mandate that at least one percent of a company’s workforce should consist of people with disabilities, a requirement the district aims to enforce more widely.

“We hope this rule can be applied by all companies in Cianjur, so outreach can be strengthened and people with disabilities can secure decent jobs and compete fairly with non-disabled workers,” he said.

Officials say the ULD program is part of broader efforts to promote social inclusion, reduce economic inequality, and ensure that people with disabilities have access to skills development and dignified employment.

The initiative is expected to expand in the coming years, with local authorities planning additional partnerships, training modules, and job placement programs tailored to community needs.
