"We have recorded 13.5 million tons of CO2 from our Pavilion to date. Converted to our currency, this is close to Rp7 trillion, a potential transaction that has been signed by both parties," Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said at COP30 on Monday local time.
He further explained that this value comes from the sale of 12 million tons of technology-based CO2 and 1.5 million tons of CO2 from the Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) sector and several power generation sectors.
The Indonesian government continues to encourage all parties to collaborate on mitigation actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the potential of the carbon economy, he said.
"This week, we aim to collaborate with other parties to increase our ambition from carbon collection to climate action. Therefore, we invite everyone to collaborate on mitigation actions, which will then be packaged in carbon certificates," Nurofiq added.
The government is targeting carbon trading transactions of up to 90 million tons of CO2, with a transaction value of Rp16 trillion (US$929 million), during the COP30 climate change summit.
To achieve this target, 'Seller Meet Buyer' sessions will be held from November 10 to 21, 2025, at the Indonesian Pavilion at COP30. These activities bring together carbon sellers, potential buyers, and investors.
The Indonesian Pavilion also serves as a showcase introducing Indonesia's green diplomacy and cross-sector initiatives from forestry, energy, industry, and waste management.
One of the deals secured at the pavilion was the agreement between the state-owned electricity company, PT PLN, and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) from Norway.
Under the deal, GGGI will purchase 12 million tons of CO2 from PLN’s renewable energy projects.
Nurofiq said the agreement signals global confidence in Indonesia’s carbon market.
