Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is building more than 15,000 village cooperatives with supporting facilities such as business outlets and warehouses, Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono said on Friday.

He said the Ministry of Cooperatives aims to build 20,000 cooperatives by November under the Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) program, with the number expected to rise to 80,000 by February next year.

Deputy for Institutional Affairs and Cooperative Digitalization Henra Saragih added that construction is targeted for completion by March.

The ministry's plan follows President Prabowo Subianto's directive for each village cooperative to operate seven facilities: grocery stores, pharmacies, clinics, management offices, savings and loan outlets, warehouses, and logistics infrastructure.

Saragih said the ministry is coordinating with the Ministry of Home Affairs to identify land plots owned by local governments for cooperative buildings, with 32,071 plots verified so far.

He said the ministry is also working with regional cooperative offices and the military to increase the number of available sites.

He explained that state-owned food company PT Agrinas and the National Armed Forces (TNI) have been tasked with developing the seven essential facilities.

Under the KDMP program, the government plans to establish around 80,000 cooperatives to support rural communities, create jobs, expand access to basic services, reduce extreme poverty, curb inflation, and improve farmers’ exchange rate.

Through the program, the government aims to drive growth from villages and promote equitable economic development across regions. The initiative is part of the Asta Cita missions designed to guide the nation toward its Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
