This step has been taken to guarantee the containers' safety following the previous Cesium-137 (Cs-137) contamination findings in Indonesia.
Head of Diplomacy and Communication for the Cs-137 Handling Task Force, Bara Krishna Hasibuan, stated that the acceleration is carried out to ensure the smooth flow of exports and to guarantee the quality of Indonesian products in the global market.
“The certification process is running quickly and effectively, and we are very grateful to the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries for carrying out the process efficiently,” he said in Jakarta on Monday.
He noted that out of 920 containers that have been checked, 121 containers have already been shipped and are in delivery to the US. Furthermore, 262 containers have been declared ready for shipment after passing security and export eligibility verification.
Hasibuan stated that supervision has been increased as part of the government's anticipatory measures against potential radiation risks.
He further said that the task force is also strengthening coordination with port authorities and relevant agencies to ensure that all export goods leaving Indonesia meet safety standards.
All cargo and vehicles will undergo layered inspection using a radiation portal monitor (RPM) system at the main distribution gate.
“Checking at Tanjung Priok Port is now much stricter; there is RPM (to monitor radiation),” he said.
In addition to the fishery sector, the Indonesian government is also handling findings of Cs-137 contamination in export goods like footwear, which has prompted increased supervision across all production and distribution channels.
Hasibuan added that risk mitigation is essential for maintaining the competitiveness of Indonesian products while ensuring that all export commodities are safe for global consumers.
