Basarnas Head Mohammad Syafii said in a press conference on Thursday (November 27) that sea transport is being used to deliver personnel and equipment.
“Since several land routes are still inaccessible, we are utilizing sea transport, and our KN SAR vessel is on standby,” Syafii said.
Basarnas, which coordinates search and rescue operations nationwide, has activated eight missions across the three provinces affected by hydrometeorological disasters.
Syafii said reinforcements have been sent from SAR offices in Bengkulu and Pangkal Pinang, while a Basarnas Special Group (BSG) team was dispatched from Jakarta on Thursday night.
Search and rescue efforts are focusing on evacuating residents who remain isolated and locating missing victims.
“The SAR Mission Coordinator, along with all available SAR personnel in the region, are currently working hard to carry out operations, particularly evacuating isolated victims,” Syafii said.
He added that data on fatalities, injuries, displacement, and infrastructure damage remains dynamic and is being collected by joint teams in each region.
According to a preliminary report from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), flash floods and landslides have struck 13 districts and cities in North Sumatra, including Langkat, Central Tapanuli, Mandailing Natal, South Tapanuli, and North Tapanuli.
