Jakarta (ANTARA) - Efforts to restore electricity in Aceh are being accelerated after floods and extreme weather damaged high-voltage transmission infrastructure across several areas, an official said.

Commander of the Iskandar Muda Regional Military Command Major General Joko Hadi Susilo said here Friday that the military is fully committed to supporting recovery operations.

“Our soldiers are ready to open access, secure locations, and ensure smooth distribution of materials,” he said.

Restoring power is seen as critical to helping communities return to normal life.

Earlier this week, 12 transmission towers collapsed and two others were severely damaged due to extreme weather.

State electricity company PLN has launched an accelerated program to deliver replacement tower materials from various regions to Aceh, backed by hundreds of military personnel and the local disaster mitigation agency.

Joint teams are handling logistics, clearing access to tower sites, and conducting repairs in difficult terrain.

Key equipment, including the Emergency Restoration System (ERS), has been flown in aboard Hercules aircraft to install temporary towers at vital points.

Teuku Nara Setia, Head of the Aceh Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), emphasized that worker safety remains a top priority.

“BPBD maps risks, ensures field conditions are safe, and fully supports PLN standby teams and military personnel. Collaboration is key to accelerating infrastructure recovery,” he said.

PLN has also urged residents to remain cautious of electrical hazards during ongoing extreme weather.

To strengthen disaster response, the National Disaster Mitigation Authority (BNPB) has opened a call center (0811-6164-5500) for communities affected by floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

The service is designed to speed up reporting and address urgent needs, particularly in areas still struggling with communication access.
