After visiting the evacuation post in Agam District, West Sumatra, he continued his working visit by helicopter to South Tapanuli on Thursday, where he visited two other evacuation posts in Garoga Village and Batu Hula Village.
Upon his arrival, he chatted with refugees and listened to their complaints.
"I express my deepest condolences to the disaster victims. I have been instructed by the President to expedite disaster management and recovery," he said, while conveying greetings from President Prabowo Subianto.
He then asked the local government to expedite the distribution of logistical aid, by land, sea, and air.
Gibran also urged camp administrators to guarantee that evacuees receive three meals a day, along with proper sanitation and clean water access.
President Prabowo has ordered the immediate restoration of fuel distribution lines and an inventory of damaged homes for immediate reconstruction by the government.
"The fuel lines will be restored immediately. This is a direct order from the President. Please collect data on damaged houses first. We ensure that those who have evacuated receive good services. Many people have complained about school and housing issues. We will assist you," the vice president stated.
After visiting Agam District, West Sumatra, and South Tapanuli District, North Sumatra, Gibran continued his visit to Aceh Singkil District, Aceh.
Floods and landslides have recently struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra following days of intense rainfall.
According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), as of December 4, the disasters had killed 776 people, left 564 missing, and affected 3.2 million residents.
President Prabowo Subianto visited several disaster-hit areas on Monday and said the government would airlift supplies to isolated locations while ground access remains cut.
