According to a statement received on Thursday, the commitment was highlighted during Esti's meeting with Turkey's Deputy Minister of Trade, Mustafa Tuzcu, in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday.
Indonesia recorded a total trade value of US$2.4 billion with Turkey in 2024, with a five-year growth trend of 13.50 percent.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's exports to Turkey in 2024 reached US$1.9 billion, an increase of 26.05 percent compared to 2023, with main products including semi-finished products of non-alloy iron or steel, flat-rolled stainless steel, artificial staple fibers, coke, and palm oil.
According to Esti, Turkey is currently Indonesia's 23rd largest export destination and 36th largest source of imports.
"The trade between Indonesia and Turkey is experiencing a positive trend. There is more potential that can be further developed to realize the trade achievement target of US$10 billion, and we need to immediately achieve more meaningful trade through the IT-PTA," she remarked.
Indonesia considers the IT-PTA a strategic step to deepen the economic relationship between the two countries, as well as an important foundation for the Indonesia-Turkey Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IT-CEPA).
The deputy minister emphasized that Indonesia considers it important to provide adequate flexibility for both parties so that the product scope is not too narrow and can truly reflect mutual interests.
"Indonesia also encourages that key sectors like textiles, footwear, as well as iron and steel continue to be discussed so that the benefits of this agreement can be felt more equitably," she said.
Meanwhile, Turkey's Deputy Trade Minister, Mustafa Tuzcu, affirmed that his side would consider the proposal and suggested that both countries explore potential cooperation in the construction sector, given that Indonesia is currently developing its new capital city, Nusantara.
