Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid conveyed that equitable connectivity allows villagers to have equal access to education, public services, and economic opportunities.
"We acknowledge inequalities in access in various regions; therefore, development in those areas will be a priority in 2026," she stated at the Declaration of the Direction of Digital Indonesia in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Hafid said the government is prioritizing equitable connectivity after carrying out massive infrastructure development during 2023-2024.
The minister mentioned that digital infrastructure development over the past two years has shown a significant impact in Eastern Indonesia, such as Papua, South Papua, Gorontalo, East Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara, and South Sulawesi.
Regarding equal connectivity, her office has also promoted the use of solar energy as an alternative, eco-friendly power source for operating base transceiver stations (BTS) in Indonesia’s remote regions.
Although solar panels produce less energy than conventional generators, they have successfully powered BTS to connect essential public institutions to the internet.
"Hopefully, this will strengthen affirmative action and improve the quality of governance in various regions in Indonesia, including in eastern Indonesia," she continued.
She then highlighted that existing infrastructure utilization must be optimized to achieve greater economic impact.
“We have not made full use of the infrastructure we built. The technology continues to advance and we are already seeing economic benefits, but there is still more potential to tap,” she pointed out.
She stated that efforts are being made to create opportunities for the digital space for the community, businesses, and the government to grow together.
"Digital transformation must generate real added value for the economy and open up opportunities for all," she emphasized.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital has formulated a development direction for Digital Indonesia, encompassing the aspects of connection, growth, and security.
Furthermore, digital development is aimed at achieving equitable connectivity, strengthening economic growth, and creating a secure digital space.
