Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto directly invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to make an official visit to Indonesia during a bilateral meeting at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Wednesday (December 10).

The meeting followed the Indonesian leader's engagements with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad. Prabowo and Putin last held a meeting in St. Petersburg in June 2025.

“On this occasion, I would like to invite Your Excellency, President Putin, to Indonesia, either in 2026 or 2027. We hope that Mr. President will visit Indonesia,” Prabowo stated during a livestream broadcast on his secretariat’s YouTube channel.

Prabowo then lightened the discussion with brief humor, encouraging Putin to extend his overseas itinerary beyond India and include Indonesia in his next travel schedule.

“Please, don’t stop at India. We sincerely look forward to your visit to Indonesia,” he remarked as the two leaders shared a short laugh.

Responding to the invitation, Putin conveyed his appreciation and affirmed his intention to reciprocate Prabowo's visit.

“Thank you very much. I will definitely come to Indonesia. It would be a pleasure, thank you very much,” he told Prabowo, according to Russian media outlet RIA Novosti.

During the meeting, Prabowo also highlighted his recent discussions with Russian officials and business representatives at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, noting that the talks showed promising prospects for future collaboration.

“I have linked Russian representatives with our country’s industrial and business entities, and I believe the talks have led to numerous positive follow-up steps,” he said.

He was referring to his November meeting with representatives from Russia’s Sistema Group, accompanied by Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Gennadievich Tolchenov, to explore cooperation in sectors such as pharmaceuticals and shipbuilding.

Indonesian Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani said after the meeting that the discussions continued the momentum of President Prabowo’s official visit to St. Petersburg last June.
