Jakarta (ANTARA) - State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the process of assessing housing damage caused by recent floods is expected to take several months.

Speaking after accompanying President Prabowo Subianto on a visit to refugee shelters in North Sumatra on Saturday, Hadi said the government is implementing several response stages in parallel.

He said the government is prioritizing emergency response efforts while simultaneously preparing rehabilitation and reconstruction measures.

“The process will likely take months, so multiple stages are being carried out at the same time,” Hadi said in a press statement broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Saturday.

“Emergency response measures are underway, and we are also starting preparations for rehabilitation and reconstruction, including calculating the number of houses affected, whether severely, moderately, or lightly damaged,” he said.

Hadi added that the government has coordinated the preparation of new locations or relocation sites for residents who are unable to return to their former homes.

The government is also inventorying state-owned land and land managed by other parties for possible use as relocation areas.

“We have coordinated across 52 affected districts and cities to inventory state land and land currently managed by certain parties. These areas will be allocated as relocation sites for affected residents,” he said.

Hadi emphasized that the government is working to ensure that all stages, from mitigation to relocation, are completed as swiftly as possible.
