“Our goal is to build sovereign AI, AI whose models are created by Indonesia and reflect the values of our society,” Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said after delivering remarks at the AI Talent Day & Graduation 2025 event here on Wednesday.
To accelerate the development of the national artificial intelligence ecosystem, the Ministry has introduced a flagship program called AI Talent Factory.
The initiative serves as a strategic government step to produce 12 million digital talents toward achieving Indonesia’s technological sovereignty.
Patria said the program is also designed to address technological challenges while equipping the nation’s future generation with AI-based knowledge and skills.
Graduates of the program are expected to contribute more significantly to national AI development.
Moreover, he noted that Indonesians have shown strong enthusiasm for AI technology, based on data received by the ministry.
This is evident from the widespread use of various generative AI features, particularly in the creative industry.
AI usage, he added, has also become increasingly integrated with social media platforms used by account holders across various services.
“Therefore, we certainly do not want to only be users, which is the most important point. We do not want to only become a market. We want to be players. We do not only want to be users, but we want to become deployers as well as developers in the field of AI,” he said.
He added that developed countries such as Japan and several European nations have also created AI models that reflect the specific needs of their respective societies.
