"We have decided to prepare a dedicated site as a venue for us to recite prayers and reflect on the disasters that struck Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra," Jakarta Governor Pranomo Anung Wibowo remarked.
Addressing the press in North Jakarta on Friday, he confirmed that the capital will primarily mark the year’s transition with prayers, refraining from luxury and extravagance as a gesture of empathy for disaster victims.
"After deliberations, I have decided to avoid excessive festivities and luxury. No, I do not wish for such celebrations," Pramono stressed, noting that he has not yet determined the venue for the mass prayer event.
While resolute about modest New Year celebrations, he emphasized that the government still intends to organize celebratory activities, highlighting Jakarta’s position as the capital and a future global city.
He also underscored the possibility of a drone performance as the main attraction instead of fireworks, marking a break from tradition.
Earlier, Jakarta Transportation Office Head Syafrin Liputo confirmed that his office has devised strategies to ensure smooth public mobility during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays.
This includes deploying four additional boats for residents planning to visit the Seribu Islands District.
Highlighting land transport, he outlined the government’s ongoing preparatory measures, such as ramp checks on public vehicles and assessments of bus terminal readiness.
He further explained that his office has begun closely monitoring four primary terminals—Pulo Gebang, Kalideres, Kampung Rambutan, and Tanjung Priok—along with three additional terminals: Muara Angke, Grogol, and Lebak Bulus.
Additionally, the Transportation Office has prepared 2,500 personnel for terminal and traffic oversight, supported by 80 tow trucks, 46 patrol cars, and two vehicles equipped with digital variable message signs.
