Cilegon, Banten (ANTARA) - Indonesia is stepping up mitigation measures against extreme weather to ensure safe travel during the Christmas and year-end holiday period, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno said on Monday.

“All preparations have been carried out thoroughly, including weather-related anticipatory measures, as we are currently facing unusually wet conditions,” Pratikno said after inspecting service readiness at Merak Port in Cilegon, Banten Province.

He said authorities are addressing multiple challenges, including cyclone activity affecting three provinces, ongoing post-disaster recovery efforts in several regions, and forecasts of rough weather along southern coastal areas.

To reduce risks, the government has intensified coordination among ministries and agencies. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has been providing updated weather forecasts, early warning systems, and risk maps related to heavy rainfall, strong winds, and landslides.

Pratikno said security forces, search and rescue teams, and disaster response units have been placed on standby, while transport hubs, ports, and ferry crossings are strengthening safety procedures and contingency plans.

“We have observed a very high level of preparedness across ministries and agencies, including the military, police, search and rescue teams, and all relevant institutions,” he said.

He added that personnel and supporting infrastructure have been prepared to minimize potential risks, allowing the public to travel safely during the busy holiday period despite volatile weather conditions.

“We are anticipating all potential risks, and we are ready,” Pratikno said, commending agencies for developing coordinated response scenarios for the year-end period.
