"Our rice stock is secure," Sulaiman said.
He said the figure surpasses the previous peak of around 2 million tons, which included imports.
"Now, without imports, our stock is 3.5 million tons — the highest ever. We have a rice surplus, so there will be no problems until Ramadan," he said.
Sulaiman urged businesses not to manipulate rice prices, stressing that national supplies are more than adequate.
"I ask you not to manipulate prices. Stocks are sufficient — more than sufficient," he said.
Statistics Indonesia earlier reported that potential domestic rice production this year is estimated at 34.79 million tons, up 4.17 million tons or 13.6 percent from 30.62 million tons in 2024.
