"This approach focuses on the quality of tourists' experiences, as well as the quality of economic, social, and environmental impact," the ministry's Assistant Deputy for Strategic Management, I Gusti Ayu Dewi Hendriyani, said in a statement confirmed on Tuesday.
During a virtual discussion titled “The 12th Strategic Discussion Space: Implementing Quality Tourism in Indonesia,” held on Monday, she explained that Indonesia's tourism has shown positive recovery and growth in recent years.
However, she noted that growth alone is not enough to address the long-term challenges of the tourism sector.
She believes that future tourism development must shift toward a higher-quality, sustainable, and inclusive approach, intended to address environmental and socio-cultural challenges while ensuring more equitable economic benefits for the community.
Quality tourism is deemed necessary to be a strategic framework for national tourism development. This ensures the sector truly provides added value to the public, maintains the sustainability of destinations, and enhances Indonesia's competitiveness on the global stage.
Director of the Economic and Monetary Policy Department of Bank Indonesia, Tri Yanuarti, noted that the global tourism trend is currently moving towards personalization in tourism experiences and short-haul travel in line with the quality tourism concept.
Bank Indonesia supports the development of quality tourism in Indonesia by strengthening the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through various stimulus programs, providing tourism financing via macroprudential liquidity incentives, and supporting the promotion of tourism investment and visits.
"We also support the promotion of tourism investment and visits both within the country through the Bank Indonesia representative offices in regions and abroad through Bank Indonesia representative offices in various countries," Yanuarti remarked.
