Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta’s mass rapid transit (MRT) service is set to extend its operating hours for New Year 2026 celebrations, running from 5 a.m. Wednesday (December 31) until 2 a.m. Thursday (January 1).

"The special operational scheme will only be valid for two days," said Rendy Primartantyo, Corporate Secretary Division Chief at PT MRT Jakarta, in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He explained that once the arrangement ends, MRT trains will resume normal operating hours on Friday (January 2), from 5 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. local time.

MRT Jakarta, he continued, has implemented crowd management measures to anticipate a potential surge in passengers, including deploying additional personnel, preparing extra pass cards, and optimizing card readers at stations.

Highlighting payment options, Primartantyo noted that residents can access MRT services using bank-issued electronic money cards, the MyMRTJ app, the MyMRTJ Lite ticketing machine, Indonesia’s QR code-based payment system QRIS, as well as station ticket counters.

Furthermore, he reminded passengers to plan their trips carefully, follow instructions from station attendants, and stay updated with the latest information provided by MRT Jakarta through its official website and social media channels.

Primartantyo also reported on MRT ridership, noting that throughout November 2025, the urban rail system served a total of 4,173,621 passengers, with a daily average of 139,121 riders.

He added that the weekday average, from Monday to Friday, stood at 156,994 passengers per day, while the weekend average reached 103,374. According to him, the weekday figure reflects strong public enthusiasm for mass transit.

He further stated that MRT Jakarta has set a target of serving at least 43 million passengers by the end of this year.
