He said the Ministry of Agriculture is currently identifying all affected types of livestock, including chickens, cattle, and goats, to ensure that assistance is aligned with conditions on the ground and to prevent further losses in disaster-affected areas.
“We are identifying everything, from chickens to cattle and goats. From the livestock sector, we also have programs that will support recovery in the post-disaster phase,” Sudaryono said in a statement on Saturday.
He added that the ministry is still gathering data from the field, while the distribution of assistance will be carried out once the emergency response phase has been fully completed.
At present, disaster handling remains focused on the emergency phase, as affected communities continue to require immediate humanitarian assistance as a basis for the recovery process.
“At this moment, the situation is still an emergency, so people still need emergency assistance such as logistics and other forms of support,” he said.
During the post-disaster recovery stage, the government has prepared several assistance programs, including the 'Red and White Chicken program' for farmers whose livestock businesses were destroyed by natural disasters in various parts of Sumatra.
The government has also ensured that sufficient budget allocations are available to fund emergency response measures through the recovery phase, so affected communities are not left to cope with disasters on their own.
Based on preliminary data, the Ministry of Agriculture recorded that around 70 thousand hectares of agricultural land in Sumatra were affected by disasters, with approximately 11 thousand hectares experiencing total crop failure.
