Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has confirmed that the country’s fuel supply has not been significantly affected by the United States’ military operation in Venezuela last weekend.

Director General of Oil and Gas at the ministry, Laode Sulaeman, said Indonesia does not rely on Venezuelan crude oil imports.

“Our crude oil is not sourced from Venezuela, but from other regions. Therefore, our fuel supply remains stable,” Sulaeman said on Monday (January 5).

Although the government has not identified any direct impact from the escalation in Venezuela on domestic fuel availability or prices, he said contingency measures have been prepared to anticipate any potential developments.

“We are always prepared to anticipate all possible scenarios,” he added.

Earlier, PT Pertamina Internasional Eksplorasi dan Produksi (PIEP), which holds a controlling stake in French oil exploration company Maurel & Prom, confirmed that the situation in Venezuela has not affected the company’s assets or personnel operating in the country.

The company (PIEP), a subsidiary of state-owned oil firm Pertamina, said it continues to coordinate closely with the Indonesian Embassy in Caracas as part of its preventive measures.

To ensure domestic energy supply and strengthen national energy resilience, PIEP actively acquires and manages oil and gas fields overseas. Its facility in Venezuela is among the company’s international assets, which are spread across 11 countries.

On Saturday (January 3), a series of explosions was reported following a sudden attack on civilian and military facilities across several Venezuelan states.

US President Donald Trump later confirmed that he had ordered the operation, stating that American personnel had captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

The couple was transported to the United States, where they face federal charges related to drug trafficking and alleged cooperation with gangs designated as terrorist organizations.

Following Maduro’s detention, Venezuela’s Supreme Court directed Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to immediately assume the role of acting president.
