Speaking to the president during a welcoming ceremony for the athletes at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, Thohir said the Ministry of Youth and Sports transferred the bonuses directly to athletes and coaches to ensure transparency.
“To ensure transparency, the Ministry of Youth and Sports transferred all bonuses directly to each athlete and coach through BRI,” Thohir said.
He stated that the total amount of bonuses distributed to athletes and coaches reached Rp465.25 billion, or around US$26.9 million.
“This is an extraordinary figure, Sir. Thank you for your attention,” Thohir added.
The minister explained that individual gold medalists received Rp1 billion each, marking the largest bonus ever awarded to Indonesian athletes.
Silver medalists received Rp315 million, while bronze medalists received Rp157 million.
“There will also be a separate calculation for team events, including bonuses for coaches,” he said.
Thohir also informed the president that the ministry had organized a financial literacy workshop attended by more than 400 athletes and coaches.
After the minister delivered his report, the event continued with a video presentation highlighting the athletes’ achievements, particularly the gold medalists at the 2025 SEA Games. The video also showcased records broken by the Indonesian contingent.
Several athletes then symbolically received their bonuses from President Prabowo. The first was Martina Ayu Pratiwi, who won an individual gold medal in triathlon.
Before presenting the plaque of appreciation, President Prabowo briefly viewed and held the medals worn by Martina around her neck and exchanged a few words with her. He then continued presenting awards and greeting other gold medalists.
Indonesia finished second overall at the 2025 SEA Games, behind host nation Thailand, after winning 91 gold, 112 silver, and 130 bronze medals.
The result marked Indonesia’s best performance since 1995, the last time the country placed second at the SEA Games.
