Natuna Deputy Head Jarmin said in Natuna on Saturday that only one location has been approved for the development of facilities and infrastructure for the project, namely North Cemaga Village in South Bunguran sub-district.
“Construction activities have started in the Sungai Bulan area, and land preparation is currently under way,” he said.
A total budget of Rp13 billion has been allocated for the development, with the funding sourced from the central government and designated specifically for physical construction.
Meanwhile, the land required for the project is being prepared by the local government through North Cemaga Village.
A number of supporting facilities will be built at the site, including a shipyard, a cooperative, an office, and a fish auction facility.
The development of the Red and White Fishermen’s Hamlet in Natuna followed a proposal submitted by the Natuna District Government to the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in 2025.
Previously, the Natuna District Government proposed several locations for the project. However, to date, only North Cemaga Village has received approval.
The approval was granted after a review by a ministry team confirmed that the proposal met feasibility and completeness requirements, including the presence of an active fishing community and the availability of village- or sub-district-owned land suitable for the planned development.
“In 2025, the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, visited Natuna and directly inspected the proposed sites in North Cemaga and Tiga Island. However, Tiga Island was deemed unsuitable,” Jarmin said.
