State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said on Thursday that the president had instructed the Head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, to pay close attention to the functions and spatial design of several areas within IKN.
He said certain zones require special consideration, including adjustments to their layout and purpose, such as incorporating retention ponds. According to Hadi, the climate in the area is hot, and its location on an island with vast forest coverage increases the potential risk of forest fires.
Hadi made the remarks while speaking at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
He added that Hadimuljono had also reported several approaches for installing heat detection sensors across the IKN area to enable early identification of forest and land fires.
“The Head of OIKN reported that there are already several methods involving the installation of sensors, and these are being continuously tested,” Hadi stated.
Earlier, Hadi, who also serves as the president’s spokesperson, said President Prabowo had instructed OIKN and the Ministry of Public Works to implement a series of improvements and accelerate construction so that IKN can function as Indonesia’s political capital in line with the 2028 target.
On January 12, during a visit to the site, President Prabowo received a direct briefing from the Head of OIKN on the latest developments in the construction of the Nusantara Capital City.
Hadi said the president has consistently emphasized the need to speed up the development of facilities for the legislative and judicial branches, with completion also targeted for 2028.
