Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has expressed full support for President Prabowo Subianto's proposal for a "roof tile transformation" project aimed at improving Indonesia's visual landscape.

"For corrugated zinc roofs to be replaced with roof tiles, I agree 1,000 percent," Anung said on Tuesday.

He said the Jakarta provincial government supports the idea to ensure the capital, as a global city, looks attractive and well organized.

Anung added that the Jakarta government would immediately follow up on directives issued by President Prabowo.

However, he said details of the policy have yet to be finalized, including whether zinc roofs on houses across Jakarta would be replaced or alternative approaches adopted.

Earlier, Prabowo called for a national movement to replace corrugated zinc roofs with clay roof tiles to enhance Indonesia's appearance.

Speaking at a coordination meeting between central and regional governments in Bogor, West Java, on Monday, Prabowo said zinc roofs still dominate many houses nationwide.

He said zinc roofs make the environment less visually appealing and reduce residential comfort because they tend to trap heat and rust easily.

"I want all roofs in Indonesia to use roof tiles. So this movement, this project, will be a nationwide roof tile transformation project," Prabowo said.

Prabowo said the project would involve village cooperatives as the main production backbone.

The cooperatives will be equipped with small-scale roof tile factories using relatively affordable equipment, he added.

He said raw materials would be easy to obtain, as they are sourced from soil that can be mixed with other materials to produce lighter and stronger tiles.
