"We are drafting the substance. In principle, we are working to ensure the D-8 Summit produces concrete and real outcomes," he stated at the Presidential Palace complex on Wednesday.
Economic cooperation will be one of the key issues at the D-8 Summit, he noted, emphasizing that each D-8 member state has significant economic potential and that their economies complement one another.
"The economy of each member state has its own strength, and combining them will guarantee a greater economic power," Sugiono stated.
The minister confirmed that the D-8 Summit will take place next April in Jakarta, noting that the exact venue is still being finalized to ensure its suitability for an international forum.
Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno explained that the Indonesian government has prepared important agendas for Indonesia's chairmanship in D-8 this year.
Oegroseno revealed that under its D-8 chairmanship, Indonesia will also organize the Ocean Impact Summit in Bali as a way to promote maritime issues as a cooperation agenda in the organization.
"Every D-8 member state has sea access, but D-8 never talks about the sea. Hence, we want D-8 to have an agenda on global maritime issues this year," the deputy minister said.
On the attendance of D-8 leaders, he confirmed that the government has extended official invitations but declined to reveal whether any leaders have confirmed their participation in the D-8 Summit in Jakarta.
D-8 is an international organization established in 1997 by eight developing countries, mostly members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The organization aims to strengthen economic, trade, and development cooperation among its members for inclusive and sustainable growth.
Besides Indonesia, D-8 members comprise Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkiye. Indonesia holds D-8 chairmanship for the 2026-2027 term.
