Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa said a recent meeting with a delegation from Algeria's National People's Assembly in Jakarta opened opportunities for skills transfer benefiting tourism workers, small businesses, local tour guides, and investors.
"This is a strategic opportunity to strengthen the North African market and develop Muslim tourism, while encouraging knowledge transfer," Ni Luh said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Post-pandemic data shows Algerian tourist arrivals to Indonesia have increased by around 25 percent, alongside rising bilateral trade, underscoring momentum for tourism growth and joint destination promotion, the ministry said.
Ni Luh said the Algerian delegation expressed interest in Indonesia's experience in developing religious and nature-based tourism, which are priority segments for both countries.
She added that both sides also share a vision to expand cultural tourism to boost visitor numbers through distinctive, value-added tourism offerings.
Meanwhile, the ministry's Deputy for Resources and Institutions, Martini Mohammad Paham, said cooperation remains at an early stage and will focus on legislative support, sustainable tourism promotion, and a conducive investment climate.
