Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transmigration has built 454 toilets and renovated more than 500 schools in transmigration areas throughout 2025, aimed at upgrading basic infrastructure and improving the quality of education services for local communities.

Transmigration Minister Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara said here on Wednesday that the revitalization program is currently one of the primary focuses of transmigration policy.

The government is addressing various long-standing issues, particularly regarding land, basic infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and educational services for communities in transmigration areas.

He further emphasized that infrastructure repairs are being prioritized because many of these areas still have limited facilities. Several bridges and roads are damaged, healthcare facilities are inadequate, and educational facilities require a total overhaul to improve public services.

To improve basic sanitation, 454 toilets were built across 154 transmigration areas. This step is expected to improve environmental health while supporting teaching and learning activities for both students and teachers.

The renovation of over 500 schools was also carried out, as many of the buildings were in poor condition. In some locations, a single, broken toilet without running water was being shared by hundreds of students.

"It was distressing. There was a school where about 121 people had to share just one toilet," the minister said.

Beyond physical repairs, the revitalization program includes resolving legal certainty issues over transmigration land through the Trans Tuntas program to protect the rights of the community.

Furthermore, the government is implementing a transmigration transformation that emphasizes a shift in the regional development paradigm. Land management is being conducted to ensure the status is clean and clear, thereby providing strong legal certainty and supporting local economic activity.

The transformation is also directed at strengthening human resources in transmigration areas with the help of educated young talent capable of driving sustainable and inclusive regional progress.

The initiative is targeted at several transmigration areas, with three priorities: Rempang, Riau Islands; Mamuju, West Sulawesi; and Merauke, South Papua.
