During a panel discussion at the summit, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said the global impact of AI currently stands at “six out of ten.”
“Digital transformation should not stop at infrastructure provision. What is needed is meaningful access, so that technology truly becomes a solution for people’s lives,” he said in an official statement received here on Saturday.
He noted that AI advancements must be accompanied by efforts to ensure their benefits are felt more evenly, particularly in developing countries.
The ministry emphasized that the main challenge ahead lies not only in developing increasingly sophisticated AI technology, but also in ensuring it addresses real public needs, ranging from healthcare and education to local economic empowerment.
At the high-level forum, Indonesia appeared alongside fellow Global South countries, including Togo and Egypt, in a panel discussing how developing nations can steer AI utilization to generate tangible social impact.
Indonesia’s participation reflects a shift in global technology governance, where Global South countries are no longer merely technology users but are increasingly shaping the direction of global AI development.
Indonesia also shared its experience as an archipelagic nation with diverse geography, where digital connectivity serves as a key instrument for equitable public services.
With over 80 percent of its population connected to the internet, Indonesia’s digital focus is shifting from expanding access to enhancing the quality of technology utilization, including AI for public services and social development.
The summit marked a key momentum for developing nations to strengthen collaboration in building inclusive, trustworthy, and public-oriented AI.
Indonesia's participation in the forum strengthened its strategic position as a "bridge country" that connects various global interests in future technologies governance.
