Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ahmad Khoirul Umam, an international relations expert at Paramadina University, said that US-Israeli strikes on Iran challenge the credibility of the Board of Peace and expose contradictions between rhetoric on stability and actual military actions.

“The attack on Iran widens the gap between claims of regional stability and real military practices, while testing the credibility of peace narratives promoted through the Board of Peace,” Ahmad said in Jakarta on Sunday.

He added that the strikes have prompted relatively independent Muslim-majority countries, such as Turkiye and Indonesia, to reconsider their engagement with the Board of Peace.

Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia and eight other Muslim countries in the Board of Peace for Gaza support a two-state solution as the enduring path to peace for Gaza residents.

“For us, the only real and lasting solution, as emphasized by statements from the eight invited countries, is a two-state solution,” Prabowo said after the Board of Peace Summit in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 19, 2026.

Ahmad stressed that global powers must push for de-escalation amid the US-Israel-Iran conflict to prevent wider instability.

He noted that the US-Israeli effort to neutralize Iran extends beyond a single country, reflecting a broader project to reshape the Middle East’s balance of power.

Ahmad warned that normalizing the escalation in the Middle East could embolden US and Israeli actions, potentially targeting other regions worldwide.

“Regions including Greenland, Canada, Europe, or Latin America could become the next targets,” he said.

Israel launched attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, 2026, amid rising regional tensions.

Separately, President Donald Trump announced that US forces had begun a large-scale combat operation in Iran.

One US-Israeli strike involved seven rockets fired at Tehran, near the residence of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran responded with missile strikes on Israel and other targets in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.

The Indonesian Foreign Ministry said President Prabowo Subianto is prepared to travel to Iran to facilitate dialogue aimed at restoring stability and security.
