Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ambassador of Georgia to Indonesia Tornike Nozadze underscored the importance of people‑to‑people contacts in strengthening relations between the two countries.

"People-to-people contacts are becoming and have always to be truthful, very important in terms of the relations between the countries,” Nozadze said in an interview with ANTARA News Agency here on Tuesday (April 28).

He noted that the two nations share surprising cultural similarities, particularly in cuisine, describing Georgian food as being rich in spices and flavor profiles familiar to the Indonesian palate.

According to the Ambassador, Indonesian travelers frequently praise traditional Georgian dishes, while Georgians visiting Indonesia find the local cuisine equally appealing.

"They all expressed their wish to come back, which is a very solid base to develop people-to-people contacts," he added.

Bilateral cooperation is also expanding at the regional and educational levels. Nozadze cited Sukabumi as a potential "sister city" for a Georgian municipality following a recent diplomatic forum held there.

Furthermore, the Ambassador is actively promoting student exchange programs to build a foundation for future cooperation among the younger generation.

Recognizing Indonesia’s ascending influence in ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific, Nozadze reiterated Georgia's commitment to enhancing ties across political, economic, and cultural sectors.

He suggested that international diplomacy mirrors personal relationships: "Because the more friendly relations are between two individuals, the better outcome you're going to have... and the same applies to countries."

On the economic front, Nozadze highlighted Georgia’s strategic role as a transit hub.

Over the last decade, the country has modernized its road and rail infrastructure to serve as a gateway between Asia and Europe.

Georgia has also commenced construction on its third Black Sea port, designed to accommodate high-tonnage cargo ships and facilitate a greater flow of international trade.
