Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said on Wednesday that the president will attend the summit hosted by the Philippines tomorrow.
"The President will attend the ASEAN Summit in the Philippines, which is hosting the summit. Two issues will be discussed: food, and energy," Lahadalia said on Wednesday.
Regarding energy issues one of the topics at the summit involves how to build energy power in the Southeast Asian region.
Lahadalia stated that nickel is one of the energy commodities that plays an important role in regional development.
"Nickel is an energy commodity that can be converted into batteries," said Lahadalia.
Indonesia is one of the countries with a complete electric vehicle battery ecosystem spanning from upstream to downstream operations.
The minister emphasized that not all countries have such an ecosystem and Indonesia remains open to the possibility of cooperation.
If the Philippines is interested in becoming a nickel supplier for smelters in Indonesia the minister stated that the government is open to the idea.
"If Indonesia lacks raw materials, they can be sourced from anywhere. So, there is no issue of more technical and specific cooperation; that does not exist," he said.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the summit will also address the impact of global conflict on the ASEAN region, particularly the Middle East conflict.
Director General of ASEAN Cooperation Ina Hagniningtyas Krisnamurthi said the summit is targeted to produce around 24 outcome documents.
The documents highlighted by the Philippines are those related to regional stability and resilience particularly in development economics.
She added that non political Myanmar officials will attend the 2026 ASEAN Summit in Cebu.
