Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s food and beverage exporters are targeting more than US$20 million (about Rp346.44 billion) in deals at SIAL Canada 2026, the Trade Ministry said, citing strong demand in North America.

Ambassador to Canada Muhsin Syihab said the potential reflects Indonesian products’ competitiveness and alignment with evolving Canadian consumer preferences.

“Canada is a modern market demanding high-quality, sustainable and innovative products, which Indonesian goods can meet,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

The Indonesian Pavilion featured 10 companies showcasing coffee, cocoa, processed foods, spices, cassava-based products, snacks and fishery goods during the three-day exhibition.

The participation aims to boost promotion and deepen market penetration in Canada and broader North America, the ambassador added.

Exports of Indonesian processed food and beverages to Canada rose sharply between 2023 and 2025.

Shipments increased from about US$56.4 million in 2023 to US$116.6 million in 2025, more than doubling by roughly 106 percent.

Growth was driven by cocoa products, processed fruits and vegetables, and other food categories.

Trade Attaché in Ottawa Mahdewi Silky said rising demand should be matched by stronger market access.

“Businesses and partners expect faster ratification of the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement,” she said.

The pact is expected to lower tariffs, improve market certainty and support higher trade and investment flows between the two countries.
