Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the retreat session of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu on Friday as part of a series of meetings under the regional gathering.

Prabowo arrived at the retreat venue in a white MV3 Garuda Limousine, also known as the Maung Garuda, an Indonesian-made SUV limousine. The vehicle stood out among the black sedans used by other heads of state and government participating in the summit.

The President wore a formal suit similar to those worn by other participating leaders but distinguished himself with a black peci cap and dark sunglasses as he stepped out of the vehicle.

Upon arrival, Prabowo was immediately welcomed by fellow ASEAN leaders ahead of the formal agenda. Proceedings began with preparations for a group photo session involving Southeast Asian leaders, symbolizing regional unity.

As part of the official ceremony, the leaders also performed the “ASEAN Handshake,” a signature ASEAN greeting in which participants cross their arms while shaking hands. The tradition was carried out simultaneously as a reaffirmation of regional solidarity amid evolving geopolitical challenges in the region and around the world.

The retreat session continued with opening remarks by Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., host of the 48th ASEAN Summit. In his speech, Marcos outlined the major challenges currently facing the region, ranging from global uncertainty to disruptions in global supply chains.

Marcos also highlighted the tangible impact of ongoing global conflicts on economic stability and the quality of life of people across Southeast Asia. He called for concrete measures to address rivalry among major powers and to strengthen resource security through the ASEAN 2045 vision.
