“We are currently preparing the MEPE (Minimal Essential Police Equipment) concept, which we hope will establish standards on MEPE,” he said during the technical working meeting of the Polri Logistics Staff (Slog Polri) here on Tuesday.
Listyo explained that the equipment standards are part of the police force’s efforts to ensure officers are always ready for duty with equipment tailored to the characteristics of each region.
“So when Polri personnel are deployed in the field, they can truly carry out their main duties as effectively as possible,” he said.
He added that with standardized equipment, police personnel are expected to provide much better services to the public.
During the Slog Polri meeting event, the National Police chief also inaugurated the Slog Lab, a facility equipped with tools to inspect and ensure that officers’ uniforms fully meet Polri specifications and requirements.
He stated that special uniforms are also being prepared for personnel who face potential attacks in conflict-prone areas.
“So that when attacks occur, especially in areas frequently affected by conflict where bows and arrows are commonly used, hopefully, with the new equipment our personnel can avoid potential harm,” he said.
In addition, he called for Polri personnel to be equipped with various self-protection devices to deal with potential threats in the field, such as Molotov cocktail attacks and gunfire.
The National Police chief distributed around 430 vehicles, including electric-powered patrol motorcycles and cars, as well as several patrol equipment units for conflict-prone regions such as Central Papua.
