Jakarta (ANTARA) -
People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Hidayat Nur Wahid applauded the Foreign Affairs Ministry for securing the release of nine Indonesians abducted by Israel during the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 humanitarian mission.

He described the success as proof of the Indonesian government’s commitment to the 1945 Constitution, which mandates protection for all citizens.

“Despite having no diplomatic relations with Israel, the Foreign Ministry managed to build effective coordination with partner countries such as Türkiye, Egypt, and Jordan,” Wahid said in a statement received on Friday.

He urged the ministry to provide full support for the nine Indonesians until they safely return home.

The lawmaker also underlined the importance of Indonesia leveraging its presidency at the United Nations Human Rights Council to rally other countries whose citizens were also detained by Israel to pursue international sanctions against the Zionist regime.

“This development will be more meaningful if Indonesia works with other countries to take legal actions, including imposing sanctions on Israel for offending human rights and violating international law,” he affirmed.

Wahid also expressed his highest appreciation for the nine Indonesian activists, praising their courage in attempting to break through the Israeli blockade to deliver humanitarian aid to people in Gaza.

He further condemned Israel over what he described as violent and degrading treatment of the detained activists.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Sugiono confirmed that the nine Indonesian activists had been escorted out of Israel and arrived in Istanbul on Thursday, where they are awaiting repatriation.

“The Indonesian government remains in coordination with relevant parties to ensure the smooth return of the Indonesians,” he said, as quoted from a statement.

Sugiono also reiterated Indonesia’s condemnation of Israel’s treatment of the volunteers during detention, describing it as degrading conduct that violates international law and human rights principles.
