She said that Eid al-Adha, which is identical to the qurban or sacrificial meat and Hajj pilgrimage, is considered the right moment to strengthen social values.
"Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice teaches us about sincerity and sacrifice," Maharani said in a statement here on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Maharani performed the Eid al-Adha prayer at the Baiturrahman Mosque located in the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, along with DPR employees and local residents.
The Eid al-Adha prayer carried the theme "Eid al-Adha, Momentum for Sacrifice, Weaving Togetherness and Care for Others".
According to the house speaker, Eid al-Adha is the right moment to self-reflect on the meaning of sharing.
"The Day of Sacrifice also teaches us to become humans who have sensitivity and concern for others," she said.
Maharani said Eid al-Adha reflects how Muslims emulate the sincerity of Prophet Ibrahim and the steadfastness of Prophet Ismail by sharing qurban with those in need.
Therefore, she invited the public to embrace the meaning of Eid al-Adha as a collective national call to strengthen solidarity, togetherness, and social care in facing various challenges.
“Let us embody the values of Eid through mutual cooperation (gotong royong) to overcome the nation’s problems,” she said.
After the Eid al-Adha prayer, Maharani inspected the DPR’s sacrificial animals, which are scheduled to be slaughtered on Thursday (May 28).
She also donated a one-ton Limousin cattle cow, the meat of which will be distributed to DPR employees and communities living around the parliament complex.
