Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was scheduled to attend the World Economic Forum`s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, this month, the foreign minister said.

President Yudhoyono had been invited to participate in the meeting also in his capacity as chairman of ASEAN, Marty Natalegawa said here Wednesday.

"Tje President`s working visit to Switzerland is mainly aimed at attending the World Economic Forum`s annual meeting that is also attended by many other world leaders," he said.

Speaking to newsmen after attending a limited meeting with the head of state, Marty said President Yudhoyono would also have a series of bilateral meetings with a number of foreign leaders.

One of them was UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who had asked a time slot for a meeting with President Yudhoyono, he said.

The World Economic Forum`s 2011 meeting would be held on January 26 - 30. Before going to Davos, President Yudhoyono would first make a state visit to India to attend the country`s national day.

President Yudhoyono was the honorable and main guest at the anniversary of India`s historic day.

As revealed in its official website, the World Economic Forum is claimed as "an independent international organization committed to improving the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas".

The Davos meeting, which has been held for more than four decades, is designed to facilitate global leaders from various fields to discuss, explore and seek "innovative ideas and solutions to key global challenges".

Besides world leaders, the annual meeting is also participated in by chief executives of the world`s leading global businesses, heads of all major international organizations, chairs of the 72 Global Agenda Councils, representatives from civil society stakeholders, media leaders, young global leaders, social entrepreneurs, and technology pioneers.
