Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The tin company PT Timah Tbk (TINS) planned to acquire an asphalt producing company PT Sarana Karya, for which it is conducting research.

Corporate Secretary of TINS Abrun Abubakar said in Jakarta Thursday the company planned to realize the plan in the first semester of 2011.

"For this end the company is conducting a research especially on the use of downstream natural asphalt technology," he said.

He said PT Sarana Karya has the best asphalt concession in Buton, Southeast Sulawesi, with natural resources of more than 100 million tons.

On the other hand, he added, asphalt is still imported to meet local needs, which means that the market was still wide open for expansion, especially that TINS also has a wide network and ample experience in the mining sector.

He added that the acquisition of PT Sarana Karya will also pave the way for TINS to focus on the downstream natural asphalt industry.(*)
