Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - An Indonesian migrant worker from Belu district, East Nusa Tenggara, Wilfrida Soik, was threatened to get a death sentence in a murder case in Malaysia.

"We have received a report of a female migrant worker from Belu District that might be sentenced to death in Malaysia for allegedly killing her employer, Puen Yeap," Jan Pieter Windy, an advocate of the People Advocacy and Initiative Development (PIAR), said here Sunday.

The PIAR representatives had contacted Wilfrida`s family for talks about the best solution to her case, Jan said.

Wilfrida had been arrested in Johor, Malaysia, on December 18 2010.

She was then tried in a Malaysian court without having assistance from Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur and Master/Lenny Enterprise Work Agency, the migrant worker placement agency that sent her to the neighboring country, Jan said.

Wilfrida was detained in Pengkalan Cepa Penitentiary, Kota Bharu, and could likely be charged with a death penalty if she was found guilty in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, he said.

According to Jan, Wilfrida, who was currently suffering from mental disorder, was likely a victim of human trafficking conducted by Master/ Lenny Enterprise Work Agency.

She was brought to Malaysia from Belu, East Nusa Tenggara, by Master Work Agency when Indonesia was suspending the placement of housemaids in Malaysia, he said.

Despite her mental disorder, the Master/ Lenny Enterprise Work Agency still place her to take care of Puan Yeap who got Parkinson`s disease and had just undergone a brain surgery.

"While having a mental disorder, she is forced by Master Work Agency to do the job," Jan said.

In helping Wilfrida, PIAR had asked the East Nusa Tenggara provincial government to provide her with legal aid, he said.(*)
