"We have arrested three persons and are still investigating their involvement in the making of the passport used by Gayus (to make trips to a few foreign countries)," Comm Gen Ito Sumardi, head of the National Police Headquarters` Criminal Investigation Department, said here Wednesday.
The three were directly and indirectly involved in a scam that enabled Gayus to carry a passport under a false name.
The three were civilians and made a living as middlemen to people needing a passport, he said, adding the police were also investigating the possible involvement of immigration people. One of the arrested persons was an African.
"Gayus`s passport case has become a public and government concern. We are working hard to solve it," Ito said.
Gayus had used the passport to visit Macau on September 22-24, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore on September 30- October 2 2010.
Police had established that Gayus`s fake passport under the name of Sony Laksono was actually intended for a five-year-old child named Margareta.
Gayus had confessed he had obtained the passport through middlemen.
