"Family food security should be improved through green house concept or it can be rightly said as home food garden," President Yudhoyono said in a function to launch Indonesian Farmers` National Movement of Climate Anomaly Handling here on Friday.
The president said that at his private residence in Puri Cikeas, Bogor, he also grew a number of food crops such as chili, tomato, and several other kinds of vegetable.
President Yudhoyono explained further that by growing a number of food crops at the house yard, it would help the owner to cope with food problem in uncertain situation.
To realize the home food garden, the head of state said it was not difficult because it did not need a wide yard.
He said the food crops could be grown in pots, and even to breed cat fish the president added that it would not need a wide area of land.
According to the president, the farmer should not fear the National Movement of Climate Change Anomaly Handling but to anticipate it instead by maintaining or improving family food security.
The president on the occasion also held a a video teleconference to have a dialog with farmers and fishermen in Makassar, South Sulawesi; in Samarinda, East Kalimantan; and in Medan, North Sumatra.
The head of state was accompanied among others by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Agriculture Minister Suswono, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Fadel Muhammad, State Minister for State Enterprises Mustafa Abubakar, and presidential spokesman Julian A Pasha.
