According to the rules if the verdict is less than two thirds of the demand, prosecutors should appealJakarta (ANTARA News) - The Attorney General Office will appeal the verdict on former taxman Gayus Tambunan, the office`s spokesman, Babul Khoir Harahap, said here on Wednesday.
"According to the rules if the verdict is less than two thirds of the demand, prosecutors should appeal," he said.
Gayus Tambunun was sentenced to seven years in jail on Wednesday below the prosecutors` demand of 20 years for corruption.
Babul however said his office still had yet to study the sentence before conducting the appeal as so far his office had not yet received a copy of the verdict.
"We will study the verdict," he said.
Chief judge Albertina Ho said among the incriminating factors to the sentence was that Gayus by committing the crime did not support the government`s program on clean government and corruption, collusion and nepotism eradication.(*)
