Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Foreign Affairs Ministry refuses to comment on tax evasion and corruption convict Gayus Tambunan`s allegation that a CIA agent named John Gerome Grice had helped him make overseas trips while in he was in detention.

Gayus who made that statement last Wednesday (Jan 19), a few minutes after being sentenced to seven years in jail, said Grice helped him to get a passport to leave Indonesia several times.

"It is not our portion to answer or confirm that statement," the ministry`s spokesman, Michael Tene, said here on Friday.

However, Tene said his ministry was ready to facilitate or help the process of investigation if there was any request from certain government institutions.

Meanwhile, Chief of National Police General Timur Pradopo said he would investigate the veracity of certain statements made by Gayus Tambunan.

"Again, those were Gayus`s allegations. Of course, they need to be substantiated by witnesses, legal facts and proof. Therefore, we will conduct an investigation," Timur said.

The investigation would involve some institutions such as the Financial Transactions Analysis and Reporting Center (PPATK), State Audit Board (BPK), Development Financial Supervisory Board (BPKP) and Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Timur said.

According to him, Police would conduct further investigation as the judges had mentioned Gayus did not act alone in the case but with together with other persons.

Previously, Gayus had claimed the Judicial Mafia Eradication Task Force knew about his departure to Singapore and had also accused him of receiving a sum of money from the Bakrie Group.

He said it was the Task Force that had arranged and engineered his case.

Gayus also said the Task Force knew about the involvement of a CIA agent in his case.
